Freight Transport Association believes that tolls at the Dartford Crossing should be scrapped.

FTA says that continuing to collect tolls at Dartford breaks an original Government promise to scrap charges after the crossing had been paid for. FTA also says that the physical act of collecting tolls contributes to congestion on the M25 whilst, at the same time, generating unnecessary air pollution in the Dartford area as vehicles slow down and speed up before and after paying the toll. Recent press statements from FTA regarding this subject can be found elsewhere on this website.

The Dartford Messenger newspaper shares these views and is organising a petition in opposition to continuity of the tolls. Visitors to the FTA's website wishing to participate in the Dartford Messenger petition are able to do so via the following link
