Trade Routes

The following routes have been identified by members of FTA’s West Midlands Freight Council as the most congested parts of the regional road network most urgently in need of upgrading and further investment.

	A38 to A5 Wall Island
	A5 from junction 12, M6 to A38 interchange
	A5/A49 Shrewsbury
	A5/M42 joining and leaving
	A5/M6 from Cannock
	Birmingham New Road A4123/A461 Birchley Island
	Longbridge Island junction 15, M40 with A46
	A46 to M69 at junction 2 of the M6
	A45 to A46 at Coventry
	M5 junction 2 to M6
	M6 between junction 8 and 11
	A461 Dudley to A4123

The top 12 list of FTA’s congestion pinchpoints in West Midlands are as seen below. With the opening of the M6 Toll, due in early 2004, it is anticipated that some congestion on the M6 between junction 8-11 and the M5 junction 2 to M6 will be alleviated.
