Trade Routes

The following routes have been identified by members of FTA’s West Midlands Freight Council as the most congested parts of the regional rail network most urgently in need of upgrading and further investment.

Investment priorities for the West Midlands

ROUTE LEVEL OF PRIORITY
West Coast main line through the region, particularly between Rugby and Stafford, allowing freight to bypass the congested West Midlands rail network

Re-open a West Midlands line between Kidderminster 2 and Lichfield to provide much needed capacity for freight services to and from Wales

Cherwell Valley line between Banbury and Leamington Spa 3 for freight moved to and from Solent ports
